Heath Ledger v The Dark Knight

Got along to the BFI Imax on the Southbank tonight to see The Dark Knight, and yes, as blockbusters go it is exceedingly good. I loved Heath’s impossible to control, impossible to dislike anarchic vibe. I loved Christopher Nolan’s sweeping IMAX camera work (the Hong Kong scene in particular is about the most balletic, graceful and stomach moving celluloid yet committed). I loved the twist on twist on twist. I loved the strong characters way down the bill. I loved the 21st century terrorist undertones (not so subtle most of the time, check out the imagery of Batman’s logo carved into a Gotham City high rise a la WTC on 9/11). I had to scrabble hard to get a central seat in the IMAX – one place you really do not want to be sitting in the front row – and will be queuing up to watch it again. Biggest Film Ever I would imagine. Well, this summer anyway.
