I am Visual Story Editor for News Limited Australia.
If you have a visual story for me, please email simon.crerar@news.com.au
My position is a new one, and although not specifically created for me, it may as well been: I am a very visual kind of guy.
I am based in Sydney with the core Network team, but we have staff in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth too. We work from 05:00 in the morning to midnight, when we hand over to the NYPD* in New York City.
We have twenty or so specialist reporters, a team of content producers, designers and developers and complimentary Network Sport, Features and Tablet teams.
We create visually focused news stories, compelling photo galleries, multimedia and interactives for news.com.au, thetelegraph.com.au, heraldsun.com.au, couriermail.com.au, adelaidenow.com.au and perthnow.com.au.
So, what the hell is a visual story?
Something visually focused that stops readers in their tracks, drags them in and spit them out the bottom of our yran stimulated, happy and wanting to share.
My first visual story for the Network was Stunning star trails over Australia, which featured on home pages around Australia, generating tens of thousands of page impressions and thousands of Facebook recommendations.
The story got a great promo across the network…
In various spots on our mastheads’ home pages…
The story was published just before we started officially rolling on July 1, 2012.
Here’s a sample of the stuff I did in week one
